How to sell peptides online, and whether Shopify works
Key takeaways
- Pick a platform that cannot switch you off; many peptide stores run on self-hosted WooCommerce.
- Shopify can technically ship peptides, but its payment rules restrict the category. Read them first.
- Set up a merchant account that supports research peptides early, and keep a backup payment method.
- Batch lab reports and fast tracked shipping do more for conversion than any slogan.
- Paid ads are mostly closed to this category; plan on search, email and affiliates.

Selling peptides online takes the same pieces as any online store (a platform, payments, product pages, fulfillment and traffic), but each piece has a catch in this category that does not exist for socks or candles. This guide covers each one in order, including the platform question most founders ask first: can you sell peptides on Shopify? If you would rather not hold or ship stock yourself, white label peptides let you sell under your own brand while a supplier labels and ships every order.
Decide who you sell to, and say it everywhere
A research peptide store sells to laboratories, institutions and independent researchers, for laboratory research. That is not a disclaimer to tuck into the footer; it is the definition of your market, and it should be consistent across your labels, product pages, checkout, emails, ads and social accounts. Regulators judge what you sell by everything you say about it. Our guide to selling peptides legally explains why.
Can you sell peptides on Shopify?
Technically a Shopify store can list and ship peptides, and our fulfillment system connects to Shopify. The risk is the platform's own rules. Shopify Payments runs on Stripe, whose list of prohibited and restricted businesses covers pseudo-pharmaceutical products, and peptide sellers widely report stores and payment accounts being shut down after months of normal trading. Read Shopify's and Shopify Payments' current terms yourself before you build there, and assume you will need a third-party payment provider and a plan B.
Choose a platform you will not lose
In most categories the platform is a design choice. In this one it is a survival choice, because a platform that removes your store takes your rankings, reviews and customer data with it.
Self-hosted WooCommerce
Many established peptide stores run on WooCommerce, the open-source store plugin for WordPress, because no single company can switch the store off. You still need a web host whose terms allow your category (some hosts do not), and you are responsible for updates, security and speed. In exchange you own the whole stack.
Custom builds
A custom store gives full control and costs the most to build and maintain. It only makes sense once you have volume and a developer. Our fulfillment system accepts orders from custom platforms through an open API.
Set up payments before you need them
Payment processing is the hardest part of selling peptides online. Mainstream processors restrict the category, card networks monitor pharmaceutical-adjacent merchants closely, and accounts are reviewed or closed with little warning.
- Apply early to a merchant account provider that knowingly supports research peptides. Approval can take weeks.
- Expect a reserve: a share of your early sales held back for a period as protection against chargebacks.
- Watch your chargeback rate. Clear billing descriptors, tracking on every order and fast replies keep disputes down; a high rate puts the account at risk.
- Keep a backup method such as bank transfer, so a processor review does not stop every sale.
Pages your peptide store needs
Buyers in this market are skeptical and compare stores before they buy. These pages do most of the convincing:
- Product pages with the product name and amount, form (for example lyophilized powder), storage information, the batch-specific lab report, price and stock status, written in research terms with no claims about effects.
- A lab report page or batch lookup where a buyer can match the number on their vial to its certificate of analysis.
- About and contact pages with your real company details and a way to reach a person.
- Shipping, returns and refunds that match what you can actually deliver.
- Terms of sale that restrict sales to research use, plus a buyer acknowledgement at checkout.
- A privacy notice covering what you collect and who processes it.
Price your products from your real cost per order
New stores usually price by copying a competitor, then discover their margin is gone. Work it out from your own numbers instead. Your real cost for one order is the product, the fulfillment fee, packaging, postage, the payment processing fee (often several percent in this category) and the marketing it took to win that order. Price so that the order still makes money after all of it, then check where that lands against the market.
Two habits help. First, think in orders, not vials: one fulfillment fee covers a whole order, so a customer who buys two or three products is far more profitable than one who buys a single vial. Bundles and free shipping above a set order value push buyers that way. Second, keep discount codes for affiliates and returning customers rather than running store-wide sales, which train buyers to wait. Our white label peptide pricing page has a margin calculator you can use with your own numbers.
Fulfillment: ship yourself, hire a warehouse, or dropship
You have three options. Shipping yourself is cheapest per order and most expensive in time; it means storing stock correctly, packing, labeling and running to the post office daily. A third-party warehouse removes the packing but you still buy and own all the stock. Dropshipping removes both: the supplier keeps the stock, applies your label and ships each order, and you pay for product as orders ship. For a new brand peptide dropshipping usually makes the most sense until a few products sell predictably.
| Option | Stock you buy | Your time per order |
|---|---|---|
| Ship it yourself | All of it | Packing, labels, drop-off |
| Third-party warehouse | All of it | Managing the warehouse and your stock levels |
| White label dropshipping | None | Little: orders reach the supplier automatically |
Whichever you choose, send tracking on every order. A buyer who can see where their package is rarely files a dispute.
Get traffic without paid ads
The major ad platforms prohibit ads for unapproved drugs and restrict related products, and research peptide ads are frequently rejected or accounts banned. Plan around channels you control:
- Search. Accurate, useful pages about research, testing, storage and quality earn traffic for years. Write for the questions buyers actually search, never for effects in people.
- Email. Capture addresses from day one; your list is the one audience a platform cannot take away.
- Affiliates. Creators and communities with trust, under a written agreement that bans claims and dosing talk.
- Proof. Visible batch lab reports, fast shipping and honest support turn first orders into repeat buyers.
Customer support and reviews
Answer fast, in writing, and never give usage or dosing advice, even when a customer asks directly; a polite refusal that points to research use is the right answer every time. Moderate reviews the same way: a review describing personal use or results is a claim you are now publishing. If you would rather not run support yourself, our program offers managed customer support as an add-on.
